Josie Belmont's Biography
Hello, my name is Josie Belmont and working with animals is a life-long passion for me. From a very early age I was involved with dog and cat shows-participating and placing in many dog obedience and showmanship competitions including a state championship. After graduating from high school I continued to keep dogs and cats in my life working in a grooming salon as an assistant/groomer while attending Kiswaukee Community College. After two years I decided that I loved the industry enough to really learn as much as I could about it.
The Academy of Dog and Cat Grooming Arts offered day and night classes and I took advantage of both as often as I could. My prior experience as a groomer accelerated my education, graduating in just four months. Working for both my original salon and a kennel as a groomer-until my career at the kennel necessitated my undivided attention. It was also at this time that I started to compete in grooming competitions, and last year I took home first place in the poodle competition and second place in the hand stripping (terriers) competition.
I started working at Gone to the Dogs in 2013, I love grooming at GTTD and I love the daycare. I never thought I would be comfortable working at a daycare because interaction between grooming dogs is usually strictly prohibited. I was thrilled to see how well daycare works and how happy every dog is about coming to daycare. I see a lot of the daycare dogs in my grooming salon and it’s really fun to get to know them in both areas of GTTD.
I have found that even the best groomers in the industry are always still learning and educating themselves and I strive to follow that example and pushing myself to keep improving. One way I will do this is to continue to enter grooming competitions, attending the shows, getting the newest products, and best advice and help from everyone. I have met many of the top people in the grooming industry and I have taken many seminars and classes; now sponsored by Gone to the Dogs. I have gotten my diploma and certifications in many different categories. I have worked under some amazing groomers including Groom Team USA. I have even groomed for a couple of these amazing women when they got too busy in their salons, helping them keep up with their busy schedule in exchange for more experience and free critiques. I am very pleased to have developed a large network of grooming professionals who I can turn to when unusual grooming situations arise.
I am 100% safety focused when it comes to my job. Along with striving to accumulate more education and experience, I will be getting my SDC Salon Detail Certification within the next year (2015).
“I love and cherish every pet I work with. I am honored by the trust my clients have in me with their pets and by the love I receive from the dogs and cats (even the grumpiest ones!) that I groom. This is not just a “job” for me. I love what I do.”
